Art & Music Concert and Reception May 18

Mark your calendar for May 18, 2014, at 3 pm to attend the Art and Music Concert featuring the Mussorgsky/Ravel masterpiece Pictures at an Exhibition.

The original music was a piano composition by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky who wrote the piece in six weeks to honor the memory of his artist friend, Victor Hartmann. Hartmann’s sudden death at the age of 39 sent a wave of mourning through the European art world. Maurice Ravel later turned the piece into a full orchestral arrangement that has been popular for a century.

The La Mirada Symphony picks up the art theme in their final concert of season by adding an exhibition of several professional artists. Their work will be on display and for sale. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the LMS. The after concert reception is open to everyone and will include an art auction, live entertainment, and refreshments.

Admission to the concert at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts is free. A $5 donation is suggested. For more information call 714-420-0262.
