Track 01 · About La Mirada Symphony

Keeping live orchestral music free, welcoming, and close to home.

The La Mirada Symphony is a nonprofit community orchestra dedicated to bringing live orchestral music to people of all ages. For more than six decades, the Symphony has served La Mirada and surrounding communities by creating concerts that are high-quality, accessible, and open to everyone.

At a time when so much entertainment is streamed, scrolled, and experienced alone, a live orchestra offers something different. It brings people into the same room. It creates a shared moment. It reminds us that music is not only something we hear, but something we experience together.

Live music should be experienced by everyone, not limited by cost, background, or familiarity.

Track 02 · Our Story

From a local idea to a lasting cultural organization.

The Symphony began in the early 1960s when local pianist Blanche Nissim wanted to share live music with the community. What started with volunteer musicians performing at La Mirada High School grew into a lasting cultural organization.

Today, the orchestra performs at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, continuing the same purpose that shaped its beginning: connection, accessibility, and artistic excellence.

Track 03 · Our Purpose

Making symphonic music part of everyday community life.

The La Mirada Symphony exists to make orchestral music part of everyday community life. Our concerts welcome longtime symphonic music lovers, first-time concertgoers, families, students, and anyone curious enough to walk through the doors.

Track 05 · Why It Matters

A community orchestra does more than perform music.

It helps create a cultural gathering place. It gives audiences a reason to come together. It introduces young people to live performance. It keeps the arts visible, present, and meaningful in civic life.

For many audience members, a La Mirada Symphony concert may be their first experience hearing a live orchestra. That first experience can become a lifelong connection.

Track 06 · Community Impact

Keeping orchestral music active and accessible.

The Symphony supports musicians, encourages arts education, and strengthens the cultural life of Southern California. Through concerts, student opportunities, and community partnerships, we help keep orchestral music active and accessible.

Our work continues because donors, sponsors, volunteers, and audience members believe that live music still matters.

Track 07 · The Shared Room

A concert is more than a performance. It is a shared civic moment.

From family-friendly favorites to sweeping orchestral masterworks, La Mirada Symphony creates live experiences that bring audiences together.

That shared experience is what makes a community orchestra powerful. The music is not locked away. It is present, close, welcoming, and alive in the room.
