Track 01 · Why It Matters

Behind every performance is a conductor shaping not just sound, but people.

Behind every performance is a conductor who brings musicians together. He guides young talent and helps the audience connect with the music.

At the La Mirada Symphony, that connection comes first. Alan Mautner leads with clarity and purpose. He focuses on mentorship, discipline, and shared experience. As a result, symphonic music feels close, human, and alive.

Music is not just performed. It is passed on.

Track 02 · Artistic Leadership

Leading the Symphony with passion, precision, and purpose.

Alan Mautner grew up in Southern California. He earned a Bachelor of Music in cello performance from California State University, Fullerton.

He performs as a freelance cellist with orchestras across the region. These include Pacific Symphony, Riverside Symphony, Redlands Symphony, Desert Symphony, Mozart Classical Orchestra, and the La Mirada Symphony. He also served as principal cello of the La Mirada Symphony for several seasons.

Before becoming conductor, he experienced the orchestra from within. He worked as a performer, collaborator, and ensemble musician. Because of this, he brings a clear and practical approach to the podium.

Track 03 · Education + Conducting

A career shaped by teaching and developing young musicians.

Alan Mautner began conducting while still in high school. In 1994, he started leading the Symphony Orchestra at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. He continues in that role today.

The LACHSA Orchestra has earned top ratings at local festivals. It also joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic Educational Partnership. Because of this, students receive coaching and master class opportunities.

The orchestra performed at Walt Disney Concert Hall in 2013. In addition, Mautner co-conducts the LACHSA String Ensemble and coaches chamber music.

Track 04 · Mentorship + Impact

Helping students grow into serious musicians.

Many of Mautner’s students attend leading music schools. These include Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, Oberlin, Eastman, and USC.

He has also conducted opera productions such as The Magic Flute, Tales of Hoffman, and Carmen. In addition, he served as music director for musical theater works including West Side Story, Evita, Into the Woods, and Phantom of the Opera.

This connection between professional training and student growth shapes the La Mirada Symphony’s story. As a result, the orchestra remains serious, accessible, and community-focused.

Track 05 · Community Access

Connecting music education with community life.

In 2014, Mautner became Partnership Manager for YOLA at LACHSA. This program works with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. It brings music education to fourth-grade students in East Los Angeles.

In its first month, 95 students began learning string instruments for free. Soon after, Gustavo Dudamel visited the program’s opening.

Mautner also leads the Wildwood Music Camp Senior High Festival Orchestra. In addition, he has conducted youth orchestras and ensembles across Southern California.
