La Mirada Symphony Presents “Echoes of Russia,” a Free Season Finale Concert on May 17
Featuring Tchaikovsky’s “Pathétique” and guest performances by young violinists David Wang and Winston Tian
La Mirada, CA (April 29, 2026) — The La Mirada Symphony will present its season finale, Echoes of Russia, on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. This free community concert invites audiences from across Los Angeles and Orange Counties to experience an afternoon of powerful orchestral music, with a pre-concert lecture at 2:15 p.m. and the performance beginning at 3:00 p.m.
Designed as a dramatic and emotionally resonant conclusion to the Symphony’s 2025–2026 season, Echoes of Russia explores the richness and intensity of Russian orchestral music. The program opens with Dmitri Kabalevsky’s spirited Overture to Colas Breugnon, setting the tone for an engaging and dynamic musical journey.
A highlight of the afternoon will be performances by two exceptional young violinists, David Wang and Winston Tian, representing the next generation of musical talent. Their appearances are presented in collaboration with the Whittier Branch of the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC), reflecting the La Mirada Symphony’s ongoing commitment to music education and providing meaningful performance opportunities for emerging artists.
“Performing with a full orchestra is a turning point for young musicians,” said Conductor and Music Director Alan Mautner. “It challenges them, elevates them, and shows them what’s possible.”
The concert culminates with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, “Pathétique,” one of the most powerful and deeply expressive works in the orchestral repertoire. Known for its sweeping melodies and emotional depth, the symphony offers a profound and unforgettable conclusion to the season.
As part of its long-standing mission, the La Mirada Symphony continues to provide high-quality classical music performances free of charge, ensuring that live orchestral music remains accessible to the entire community. With no tickets required and open seating, Echoes of Russia welcomes audiences of all backgrounds to experience the transformative power of live music in a shared cultural setting.
The La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts is located at 14900 La Mirada Blvd, La Mirada, CA. Admission is free, and early arrival is recommended.
