La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts
Join the La Mirada Symphony for an extraordinary afternoon celebrating the brilliance of four legendary composers—Bernstein, Berlioz, Beethoven, and Brahms—on Sunday, January 19 at 3 PM at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.
A Program of Masterful Contrasts
To begin, the orchestra will perform the exuberant Overture to Candide by Leonard Bernstein, a 20th-century American icon known for his vibrant energy and Broadway successes such as West Side Story. Bernstein masterfully blended classical and contemporary styles, and this overture is a sparkling example of his theatrical flair.
Next, the program delves into the dramatic world of Hector Berlioz, a French Romantic composer renowned for his vivid orchestrations and emotional intensity. His music paints powerful stories—full of passion and imagination—that broke new ground in the 19th century.
From there, the concert turns to Ludwig van Beethoven, the revolutionary figure who bridged the Classical and Romantic eras. His fearless innovation and expressive depth reshaped the language of music, earning him a place as one of the most influential composers in history.
To conclude, the orchestra will perform Symphony No. 4 in E Minor, Op. 98 by Johannes Brahms. A master of structure and lyrical beauty, Brahms crafted music that is both emotionally rich and intellectually satisfying. His Fourth Symphony is a profound and elegant masterpiece that continues to inspire audiences worldwide.
Conducted by Dr. Robert Frelly
