About the La Mirada Symphony
Bringing Live Orchestral Music to the Community
The La Mirada Symphony is a nonprofit community orchestra that brings live orchestral music to people of all ages. For more than sixty years, the orchestra has served La Mirada by offering high-quality performances in a welcoming setting. Because music should be for everyone, every concert is free to attend.
About Our Community Orchestra
The Symphony began in the early 1960s when local pianist Blanche Nissim wanted to share live classical music with the community. At first, volunteer musicians performed concerts at La Mirada High School. Over time, those early efforts grew into a lasting cultural organization.
Today, the orchestra performs at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. While the venue has changed, the purpose has remained the same. The Symphony continues to focus on connection, accessibility, and artistic excellence.

Our Mission and Purpose
Our mission is simple. We enrich lives through live orchestral music while removing financial and cultural barriers. As a result, anyone can attend a concert, regardless of background or experience.
By keeping performances free, the orchestra invites new listeners to discover orchestral music in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Free Concerts and Community Impact
Each season, the orchestra presents a series of free public concerts for the community. These events welcome families, students, and longtime music lovers alike. In addition, many audience members attend their first orchestral performance through the Symphony.
Beyond concerts, the orchestra supports arts education and cultural engagement across Southern California. In this way, live music becomes a shared experience rather than a distant tradition.
You can explore upcoming performances on our Concerts & Events page.
Our Impact
The Symphony plays an important role in Southern California’s cultural landscape by supporting professional musicians, strengthening arts education, and fostering a sense of shared community through live performance. For many audience members, a La Mirada Symphony concert is their first experience hearing an orchestra live — and often the beginning of a lasting connection to classical music.
