Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Overture to The Magic Flute

Camille Saint-Saëns: Concerto #3 in B Mnor, Op. 61
  David Stenske, Violin

Felix Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 5, “Reformation”

Mozart’s delightful Overture to ‘The Magic Flute’ will open this evening’s program. Mozart’s music for this immensely popular opera was written with particular attention to the skills of the players that included both virtuosi and ordinary comic actors. We are honored that the centerpiece for the evening, Saint-Saens Concerto #3 in B Minor will be enhanced by the exceptional talents of our Symphony Conductor, David Stenske. This lovely concerto focuses on melodic invention and refined musicality. Ending the evening will be the ‘archetype’ of the ‘romantic symphony’ composed by Mendelssohn. Its range of moods includes the feeling of gravity, to the near sentimental, to the reverence of the Chorale, and to the thundering immediacy of the finale. It is a momentous document of the era of the Protestant Reformation.
