The evening opens with Beethoven’s Egmont Overture consisting of a set of incidental music pieces written for the play of the same name. It is powerful and expressive and one of the last works in his middle period. Dvorak’s Cello Concerto, his most popular and appealing, will follow. It was created with a full romantic orchestra score. The solo will be performed by the celebrated soloist and chamber music artist, John Walz., known for his dazzling virtuosity and elegant musicianship. The highly recognizable Symphony No. 5 will end the evening. It is one of Tchaikovsky’s most popular works with the 2nd movement considered to be ‘a classic’. Its finale reflects the untamed fury of the Cossack.
